Which AI resume builders let you download the PDF for free?

What we checked, and what we did not test
Resume builders have a distinctive shape of paywall: the work happens first and the price appears at the end, when you have already typed everything in and want the file. So the useful question is not what the free plan lets you build. It is what the free plan lets you leave with.
We opened each product’s own pricing page on 6 August 2026 and looked for the row that names download formats and download limits. Each verdict below quotes that row and links the page. We did not create accounts or export documents, so where a page is silent — most notably on whether a free Kickresume download is watermarked — the verdict carries the condition rather than a guess.
Three products, three different places to put the wall. Rezi counts your downloads. Kickresume charges for the template rather than the file. Zety changes the file format instead of blocking it, which is the version most likely to surprise someone at the end of an evening’s work.

Downloads are not the paywall here; template and customisation choices are. The page never says whether a free download is watermarked, so we are not calling it clean.

What this means if you are choosing today
If you need one polished PDF today and nothing else, Rezi’s three free downloads cover it, with the caveat that a typo caught after export costs a second one. If you expect to tailor a resume per application over several weeks, Kickresume’s uncapped downloads fit that pattern better, provided you stay on templates that are not marked as paid customisation.
Zety is the one to enter deliberately rather than accidentally. Its free plan is fully usable as a writing tool, and the file it produces is plain text — worth knowing before rather than after. And if you do subscribe, read the renewal terms twice: a plan billed every four weeks charges 13 times a year, which is not what a reader of “$23.95 a month” would expect to pay.
